Ximedica

Titan Medical SPORT™ Surgical System

Titan Medical envisioned a smaller, less expensive, and more nimble robotic surgical system that could perform minimally invasive surgery through a single port of entry into the body, and also be moved between operating rooms as needed.

Challenge:

To bring a novel robotic surgical system to fruition quickly all while demonstrating good progress along the way to ensure continuous funding.

Solution:

Ximedica focused efforts on the most critical to function sub systems first in order to reduce technical risk. Each subsystem was tackled separately and in parallel in order to maximize efficiency and minimize effects across subsystems. Breaking the system down into manageable sub systems and utilizing techniques such as rapid prototyping and simulated modeling – Ximedica effectively fostered closer focus and enhanced development speed. Through this process a team of cross-functional product development engineers and other professionals produced functional designs of core subsystems and were able to demonstrate successful product performance in a short period of time.

Results:

Under Ximedica’s wing, development of the SPORT™ Surgical System reached critical milestones, including gathering user-needs research, achieving technical feasibility, and performing live-tissue testing in just 15 months.

Development of a pre-production prototype is underway and will be proceeded by preclinical trials, clinical trials, regulatory submission, and a pilot launch.

Titan Medical plans to introduce the SPORT™ Surgical System in Europe and the United States − the world’s two largest markets for robotic surgery.
